GLISI’s Performance-based Modules for Leader Development
Georgia's Leadership Institute for School Improvement
provides Performance-based Modules (PBMs) for download free
of charge via this Web site to support Georgia school
leaders in “Priority Performances” – the high-value work
that districts need their aspiring and developing leaders to
be able to do to support student achievement and school
effectiveness. GLISI’s PBMs guide leaders to perform these
critical tasks and support practice with feedback and
assessment, helping new leaders reduce time to competency
and close the knowing-doing gap to perform confidently and
proficiently.
Who Can Use GLISI PBMs?
These modules may be used for leader development and
performance improvement
in Georgia school districts and schools, as well as
in Georgia’s higher education leadership preparation
programs. They are designed to be used by teachers in
preparation for leadership and leaders during induction and
transition in leadership roles.
What are the benefits of using GLISI PBMs?
Performance-based Modules are designed to guide work on
the job, not as a workshop or course manual. A PBM contains
topics school and district leaders identify as “critical.”
Although they address many performance tasks, all GLISI
PBMs:
-
Are geared to leaders or teachers who lead teams
-
Are lean in content: just enough, just in time to support performance
-
Scaffold real school improvement work for aspiring and developing leaders
-
Contain job-embedded learning
-
Must be practiced in real time, in real schools, aligned with real work
-
Feature clear criteria for effective performance of a task
-
Support the feedback process with a performance coach
-
Structure practice and demonstration of proficiency
-
Guide you to other resources and tools
-
Include follow-up and monitoring
For more information about the GLISI leadership development programs that use these modules, see the Leadership Preparation Performance Coaching site, the Rising Stars Collaboratives™ site, and the Executive Development Program site.
