Site Visits

Executive Development site visits are an ideal way for district and/or school teams to get a running start on developing their own Balanced Scorecards. On a luxury motorcoach over two days, site visit participants visit several exemplary schools and/or district offices to view data rooms, discuss with district and school leaders the processes they followed, and see how the Balanced Scorecard can be cascaded to the school level. The district leaders and school staff at the tour stops generously give their time to welcome the GLISI participants, treating them to an energizing view into how they have made BSC work for them. Riding together on a coach gives teams the opportunity to relax, network, and share their experiences.

Highlights of recent site visit tours included:

  • Monroe County District offices: the Superintendent of Monroe County shared how Monroe developed their Balanced Scorecard, how they are using it for SACS accreditation and how it is helping them plan for rising expectations.
  • Mary Persons High School, Monroe County: MPHS's principal Joseph Parlier showed off his data room and explained how the data are being used to help individual students achieve their goals, and show the way to student interventions.
  • Mattie Wells Primary School, Jones County: Participants were treated to an exciting display of many kinds of school and student data, as well as a unique way to capture student reading progress. Superintendent Jim LeBrun, Assistant Superintendent Mike Newton, principal Janne Childs, and the Mattie Wells staff welcomed the GLISI group with tremendous enthusiasm.
  • Susie Dasher Elementary School, Dublin City Schools: Principal Frederick Williams offered an energizing and inspiring look at a school that has been a Distinguished Title I school for the past six years, made AYP for the past seven, and had 100% parent participation in parent-teacher conferences for the past seven years. Participants were honored to meet Dublin City's superintendent, mayor, and school board members, along with the Susie Dasher team.
  • Bibb County Schools, Macon: Superintendent Sharon Patterson discussed with the group how her use of the Balanced Scorecard has helped cascade data through the system and schools.
  • Claxton Middle School, Evans County: Superintendent Marion Shaw and Principal Diane Holland and her staff greeted the group with a masterful presentation on how Claxton used the Balanced Scorecard to complete the Consolidated Application for accreditation.
