GLISI advocates for policy changes that impact getting, developing and keeping quality educational leaders through:
-
Policy reviews and advocacy initiatives
-
Charter or pilot programs that test and incubate new models and approaches
-
Program reviews
In some cases, replicating success depends on influencing policy, because school improvement can occur easier and faster in environments that nurture needed change. The Policy Influence Committee of the GLISI Coordinating Board is committed to insuring that state policy supports the work of effective school leadership. Our policy initiatives have three key goals: -
to attract and place a broader pool of able candidates for school leadership
-
to strengthen the abilities of principals and superintendents to improve learning
-
to create conditions that allow principals and superintendents to perform as effective leaders
Participating in distributed leadership allows leadership
potential to be developed and recognized.
With a variety of options, teachers can choose to remain in the
classroom and specialize in the teaching craft or they can serve in
distributed leadership roles which give them agency in the school
for improvement of conditions of practice and teaching.
